SymptomsTotal Achilles tendon rupture will make it impossible for the suffering person to walk properly and to stand on tip toe. Thompson’s test can be used to diagnose the rupture; the patient should be placed in a prone position, or kneeling on a chair with the feet unsupported when the calf muscles are firmly squeezed together, if the tendon is ruptured there will be no movement of the foot. CauseThe typical person who’s struck by a total Achilles tendon rupture is a so called weekend warrior, a man in his forties re-establishing his sport activities. Total Achilles tendon rupture is seldom preceded by pain or symptoms – less than ten percent of the people affected have had Achilles tendon problems prior to the rupture. |
